Sushi/beer pairing is one of many dining events in October

If you thought beer wasn’t fit to be paired with sushi, Sora’s Sushi Bar in the Gaylord Palms Resort is out to prove you wrong.
Of course, it didn’t serve your run-of-the-mill, on-the-tap and bottled beers with their gourmet and sometimes innovative sushi. During its monthly “So-Raw” pairing event in August, trying new beers was as much a part of the experience as sampling the raw fish.
“We try to do beers in a big way. We try to do fun beers, not your average beers,” Lynn Kasten, general manager of Sora’s Sushi Bar, said.
A Harbin lager, which seemed to garner the widest spread approval among the few dozen participants seated around the small dining room sectioned off the Gaylord lobby, started the evening off, paired with slices of salmon. Kasten said the lager brewed in Harbin, China gained a surprising following shortly after Sora opened in December. In the first couple days, the restaurant sold about 837 beers.
